“Every time you state what you want or believe, you’re the first to hear it. It’s a message to both you and others about what you think is possible. Don’t put a ceiling on yourself.” — Oprah Winfrey
Principles
New Jersey FBLA conferences are jam packed each year with members eager to Create a Legacy. By promoting our achievements and extending our reach, NJ FBLA will appeal to more students and media through websites like the NJFBLA fan page on facebook and by spreading member achievements to local newspapers.
Specific Objectives
1. Reach Out to the Media — A major goal among the officers this year is to strengthen NJ FBLA’s image not only in schools, but in the community as well. The first step in accomplishing this goal is inviting various members of the media to attend the several conferences NJ FBLA hosts. Newspapers, magazines, and even television stations will be contacted in an effort to demonstrate the level of achievement NJ FBLA members can reach.
2. Improve the Spotlight — Published quarterly, our state newsletter provides members with updates regarding our state chapter throughout the year. This year, the Spotlight will be better than ever. Each issue will feature a new edition of last year’s successful “Five Faces” program, which was formerly featured on the website. This program shows members how FBLA can assist in preparing for any type of career. In addition to including “Five Faces” in the Spotlight this year, every issue will contain actual advertisements for businesses across our state. By showcasing what businesses have to offer through advertisements in the Spotlight, we will be developing invaluable partnerships with them.
3. Launch the Publicity Committee — This brand new committee will provide an opportunity for members to get involved on the state level by assisting Laura Sorice, our State Historian, in various tasks. It will consist of regional communication directors, a secretary, and publicity assistants. This committee will raise awareness of FBLA, integrate technology into communication throughout the state, obtain media coverage for state events, promote the NJ FBLA Facebook fan page, and assist local chapters with getting media exposure.
4. Participate in the Government Awareness Program — This national program encourages members and chapters to contact their government representatives to raise awareness about FBLA. The state officers plan on meeting with government officials during the National Fall Leadership Conference in Washington, DC, and they encourage all members to also participate in this great program.
